Wednesday 23rd January: Archive Teaching Unit live on the website of the Mining Institute.

Tuesday 24th March 4- 5.30pm: ‘Under the Fields of Heaton’ teachers and artists in residence.  Mining Institute, Neville Hall, Westgate Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear NE1 1SE  Presentation of the historical background and other information about the project, leading to the residencies and commemorative assemblies in schools. Interested teachers please e mail kentpatterson@hotmail.com with the number of places needed for your school by the week ending 6th March. 

W/c 20th April. Launch of primary school ‘Under the Fields of Heaton’ Artists in Residence Projects in nine primaries. Residencies until July 2015.

April / May: Under the Fields of Heaton Snowdrop Guerrilla Planting.  Planting of snowdrop bulbs in 75 nearby sites for the 75 lost underground. The flowering of the bulbs in February 2016 signifying the laying to rest of the final bodies in the early months of  1816.

Saturday 2nd May 2pm – 4.30pm Heaton Spinney: open afternoon with NorthEast Socialist Singers, Les Turnbull, Exhibitions, planting snowdrops, stone ceremony and more. Newton Place, outside High Heaton Library.

Saturday 2nd May, 7.30pm Tickets £6 / £3 Richard Scott’s ‘Under the Fields of Heaton’ 200th Anniversary Mining Songs Concert’ at St. Teresa’s Church Hall. Heaton Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE6 5HN.Richard Scott invites you to an evening of mining songs old and new, with Heaton Voices and Appletwig Songbook.

Sunday 3rd May, 6pm: Ecumenical Service of Remembrance at St. Teresa’s Church.  With a new song from folk legend Johnny Handle.

Tuesday 12th May, 6pm: Les Turnbull: public lecture ’The Heaton Main Pit Disaster 1815’  at the City Central Library, Charles Avison Building, 33 New Bridge Street West, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 8AX. Part of Local History Month.

Saturday 27th June, 12noon – 7pm.  Heaton Festival.  Heaton Voices sing mining songs and snow drops to plant to remember the Heaton Main Mining Disaster 200th Anniversary.  Heaton Festival

Sunday 5th July: Under the Fields of Heaton ’ The Heaton Main Music Suite’ at the Ouseburn Festival. Outside Cluny 12.15pm and  outside Cumberland Arms at 2.15pm. Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear NE1 2PA. Massed choirs bands and dancers perform a suite of 6 songs and instrument pieces, specially written to commemorate the Heaton Main Mining Disaster 200th Anniversary. FREE.

Friday 25th September: Ribbon Road’ at St Teresa’s Hall. Heaton Road. Brenda Heslop – Songwriter, vocals, guitar, Geoff Heslop – vocals, guitar,  Jill Heslop – vocals, accordion. An evening of folk song in response to the Miners’ Strike of 1984/1985. Film of Easington by Keith Pattison. Tickets £7 and £5 concs. www.wegottickets.com

Friday 2nd October 8pm Tickets £5 ’Under the Fields of Heaton’ storytellers’ night at the Chillingham Pub.  ‘A Bit Crack’ Storytellers introduce an Evening of Stories from Underground. Chillingham, 91 Chillingham Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear NE6 5XN.

2016

Week commencing 4th January 2016 ‘Under the Fields of Heaton’ Lantern Making Workshops.  75 lanterns being made by Heaton residents  and schools to carry in the February 10th Lantern Event.  Next workshop Sat 6th February 10am – noon, High Heaton Library.

Friday 29th January. ‘Coals to Newcastle’ with She Shanties, Peter Sagar and Jed Grimes, at the Mining Institute, West Road, Newcastle.

Wednesday 10th February 5.30pm for 6pm: ‘Under the Fields of Heaton’  Lantern Events   at The Spinney, High Heaton, and King John’s Tower, Heaton Park, with massed choirs and bands

Wednesday 24th February 6.30 – 8.30pm launch (and then for three weeks) ‘Under the Fields of Heaton’ Art Exhibition at The People’s Theatre, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE6 5QF

Saturday 9th April 7.30pm ‘Heaton Main Suite’, performance at Northern Stage, Newcastle upon Tyne.

Friday 3rd June 7.30pm Film Night,  St Teresa’s Hall, Heaton Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE6 5HN. Peter Dillon hosts a night of films made in the Under the Fields of Heaton Project.

The last event on our calendar is a Under Heaton Fields Film Night at St Peter’s C of E Church, Wallsend. 7.00 Friday 11th November 2016
